2015 EDiversity Annual Report
EDiversity: An overview EDiversity is a parent-initiated organisation which was incorporated in March 2014 as a company by guarantee and then as a charity under section 88 in May 2014. We promote true diversity in education simply because children are diverse and therefore need different ways to learn. This can’t happen without the adults start thinking out of the box: the box that says ‘good grades=success=going to university’. Therefore although our primary target audience is parents, the ultimate beneficiary will be the children. Children have no say in their education now. If parents have little understanding about what education should be, it will seriously restrict the type of education their children get and their learning and growing up experience. We believe that parents can be a powerful voice for their children. If more parents can change and broaden their views on education, the children will have more hope to grow up as healthier, more creative, well-learned and ethical citizens to sustain a diversely capable society. Our Beliefs 1. Children's creativity and individualism are their great assets and should be nurtured. 2. All children are different and are capable of learning by themselves, which can be enhanced by suitable guidance. 3. Education should be flexible and tailored to personal needs to achieve a child's best potential. 4. Parents' rights to choose the appropriate form of education for their child should be respected. Parents and schools should work together to discuss the best education options for their children. 5. Parents and teachers should be informed with the latest educational research to enable them to adopt an education mode suitable for their child's needs. 6. Education is not only about children. Its quality has long term effects on the individual and society. Our work 1. To showcase education choices within and outside of the conventional education system. 2. To empower parents with the appropriate attitude, knowledge and tools in raising and educating their child. 3. To support the development of new initiatives in non-mainstream education. 4. To collaborate with the government, academics and NGOs on researching into and promoting various educational choices. 5. To encourage creative teaching and learning in mainstream education. 1
